Mazda MX-5 Spec races start next month

MAZDA Philippines, together with the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) and the Clark International Speedway (CIS), recently collaborated for the first-ever one-make sports car race series in the country, the 2022 MSCC Miata Spec Series.

This race event features 20 brand-new Mazda MX-5 Soft Top tuned to match the high standards of the global Miata Spec cars. The 2022 MSCC Miata Spec Series season will cover four race weekends starting on the 11th of June at the CIS. The other three race dates are August 27, October 22 and November 26, all of which will be held at CIS.

With each car not exceeding P2.8 million in value, these street-legal racers are fairly accessible to those who want to enter the world of motor sports and drive a true two-seater sports car.

The Mazda MX-5 Spec Series cars are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Skyactiv-G powertrain that produces 181 hp and 201 Nm of torque. This is mated to a six-speed manual, driving the rear wheels equipped with a limited-slip differential.

The sports cars are fitted with new exhaust systems developed by local company DRIFT XAUST to maximize airflow and produce better sound. Cusco, meanwhile, enhanced the MX-5’s handling by providing sports coilovers and chassis braces.

Inside, a Sparco competition steering wheel, racing seat, harness, safety net and a new Cusco racing roll cage were installed to enhance driver control while increasing cabin safety.
