The brawl that happened in the stands of Estadio Corregidora during the game between Club Querétaro and Atlas for the round 9 of Clausura 2022still carries consequences for Galls Blancos, who are playing their last season in Liga MX.

One of the sanctions imposed to Querétaro was the 5-year veto to the ownership of the club and the obligatory sale of the team, something they will have to fulfill by the end of the year, although the most probable outcome is that Gallos Blancos will have new owners for the start of next season.
But with the new ownership will also arrive a relocation and the change of the name, leaving Querétaro in the past. For now, there’s at least three parties interested in acquiring the team, including Club Atlante, Grupo Orlegi and the possibility of moving to Michoacán thanks to Cuauhtémoc Blanco.
But now, according to reports from sports journalist André Marín, a group of investors have started conversations with City Football Group to arrive in Liga MX, as they want to revive a team that disappeared a few years ago.
Which is the team that could return to Liga MX?
The group of investors is already negotiating with the government of Veracruz to return professional soccer to the state, as Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz was disaffiliated in 2019, given the bad management of their former owner.
But now, if City Group decides to invest and acquire the Querétaro franchise to relocate it in Veracruz, the new team could be named Veracruz City, following what they’ve done with all the teams that are part of their soccer empire.
How much does the franchise is worth?
It’s yet to be seen what will happen with Querétaro, who weren’t disaffiliated even if the were protagonists of one of the most violent chapters in Mexican soccer, but there’s almost zero possibilities that they will remain in Liga MX after Clausura 2022.
According to reports from Grupo Radio Formula, the party that is interested in acquiring the team would have to pay a figure around $22 million to acquire the franchise, although the final sum could ascend to up to $50 million, which would include the market value of the roster.
